Day Out at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum

Another day of the 2023 "spring break" week off. Today we took some time to go to the Royal Saskatchewan Museum. We tend to make a pilgrimage to this great museum on an annual basis at this time of year. Today turned out to be a perfect day to stay indoors once again and take in the natural history exhibits - the temperature was -22C this afternoon. Another chilly day on the prairies.

The first exhibit is still the replica of "Scotty", the T-Rex fossil that was found near Eastend, Saskatchewan. This is a massive, life-size skeleton. It's truly incredible how large these dinosaurs were. There is a button to push that activates what are believed to be the sounds of both an adult and juvenile T-Rex. This was definitely cause for concern for some toddlers that were near the exhibit - definitely a lot of crying!

There is a new exhibit that was put in last fall. This replaces an older one that dealt with consumer waste and the impact that this has on the environment and climate. The updated exhibit is built around the same theme but involves some new technology, including a round "video screen" that projects various images and sometimes takes on the form of the Earth. This is a welcome upgrade from the old exhibit which had been in place for what I believe was close to 30+ years.

The rest of the exhibits throughout the museum are still much as they have been for some time. They are still interesting and beautiful to look at though. The kids and I were glad that we took the time to make our annual trip to the Royal Sask Museum. It was a great way to spend a sunny yet very chilly winter afternoon in Regina.
