Hit the Hills

It was a fairly nice day in Regina this afternoon. Sunny. Very little wind. High of around -13C. This is indeed nice! Especially when compared to the weather we had last week with highs around -29C! I'll take this weather any day over what we had earlier in the month.

Regina has also been blessed (or cursed depending on your perspective) to have received a ton of snow so far this winter. I knew that a lot had fallen over the past several weeks but I didn't really have a first-hand understanding of just how much. I got an education in that this afternoon when my kids and I went tobogganing. There are a couple of decent hills near where we live so we decided to quickly drive over to them and get some sliding in. I was shocked by how high the snow banks were in the park that we went to. One bank near a walking path was at least three feet deep with snow. This is more snow than we've had here in quite a few years.

The deep snow made for really good sliding though. I can't actually remember the last time that I went out sliding. Perhaps last year? Maybe the year before? I think that it has been at least two or three years since I got on a toboggan and went down a hill. I was definitely rusty. The first couple of trips down the hill left a lot to be desired - I more or less wound up travelling sideways and landing on my back at speed! But, after a few more trips and watching my daughters, I figured it out. I definitely got some good slides in but my aging body felt it. If I ever needed proof that I'm well into middle age, sliding down these hills and the aches and pains that came with that were evidence enough.

The kids had a great time. They really needed to get outside of the house and get some fresh air (as did I). We had a great time at the hills and we got in some good slides. I'm glad that we took an hour this afternoon to do that before the sun went down. It was beautiful outside, we got some exercise and fresh air, and had a good time. Hopefully we can do this again before the Christmas vacation is over.
