Cedar Creek Gardens

This afternoon the family and I went out to a place that we had not been to before: Cedar Creek Gardens just south of Regina. Friends of ours asked us to go. At first, I wasn't exactly sure if I wanted to spend the afternoon there. I'd never been to a corn maze before, and I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it. Ultimately, I thought it would be a good idea to go so we could get some exercise and fresh air on this last day of the Thanksgiving long weekend. I am so thankful that we went! What an interesting place.

The corn maze is huge. It is broken up into three sectors and you play a game where you look for clues throughout the various sections of the maze. This was far more challenging that I thought it would be. It is very easy to get turned around and disoriented in the maze. The girls and I were able to find quite a few clues, but we started to get hot and tired as we became somewhat disoriented in certain parts of the maze.

For anyone with the wherewithal and stamina to find all of the clues and record them properly, you could enter the list of clues into a draw drum for the potential to win a gift pack. Unfortunately, we didn't collect all of the clues and we didn't properly record the ones we did find! So, we didn't leave the clue list for the draw. After we got tired of walking around the maze, we decided to go have a look at all of the farm animals that were on display closer the entrance of the facility.

While there was a pen with lots of goats and a couple of very friendly pigs, we decided to walk over the horse pasture where three lovely horses were eating on the far side. I walked up with a handful of fresh grass for them, and I called out by making a clicking sound with my tongue and the roof of my mouth. Sure enough, after a few moments all of the horses came walking over to claim the grass. My daughter asked me how I learned how to call horses. I told her that my dad had standardbred racehorses when I was a kid. It's been a long time since I've spent any amount of time around horses, but I still remember how to call them and make them happy (usually with some fresh grass!).

Cedar Creek Gardens is definitely worth a visit. Not only do they have the corn maze and the animals, but they also have a greenhouse (would be great to check out bedding plants and garden vegetables here in the spring) but also a giftshop with lots of seasonal and crafty items. All in, this was a great way to spend a lovely October afternoon in Regina (this might be one of the last nice days we have before the long cold winter sets in). I'm glad that we accepted our friends' invitation to go.
