For the second year in a row, I have had the unusual experience of being reminded that spring has finally arrived in Regina by a duck sitting on my neighbour's roof. Last year, there were two ducks sitting on another neighbour's roof. This morning, a mallard was sitting right outside my bathroom window. I couldn't believe what I was seeing (nor could the duck believe what he was seeing - every time I would move, he would waddle further away from me until he was on the other side of the roof).
I was excited to see this again this year. Prior to last year, I had never seen ducks landing on houses. Robins, crows, sparrows - definitely. Ducks - never. Now, I live fairly close to a marsh so it could be that these particular ducks were just taking a break from the marsh and were sunning themselves on the warm roof next door. Who knows?
Regardless, this is clearly a sign of spring. I'm so thankful! This winter has been a long and unpleasant one. Bring on more ducks!
