Over the past three weeks, I have been paying close attention to the war in Ukraine. I'm interested in this not only because of my Ukrainian ancestry but also because I am interested in learning more about the history of my ancestors. This history is not always coming out in the day-to-day news reporting which tends to be focused on military exploits and the personalities of the leaders involved.
As a result, I've been searching for resources that provide some insight into the line of history that has led to the current situation in Europe and what this might mean for the future. I finally came across a very concise podcast from the BBC that summarizes Ukraine's history from ancient times until today. The presenters connect the dots across time in an attempt to explain why Russia invaded on February 24th. This is well worth a listen if you wish to understand more about this tragedy.
