Regina Floral Conservatory

It's the February school break here in Saskatchewan - no school for a week. So, the girls and I have been looking for different things to do around Regina. We thought that we would go to Get Air this afternoon to do some trampoline jumping but when we arrived there, a big sign outside indicated that the facility was full and wouldn't be taking any more people from several hours. Back to the drawing board!

Luckily, I had to pick up a bass that I had repaired at Long & McQuade so we made our way over there. On the way, we were about to pass the Regina Floral Conservatory. I hadn't been there in quite some time so we decided to go in and have a look.

Quite a few other people had shown up right when we did so the entrance was quite crowded. It was great though that the volunteers running the conservatory were handing out a scavenger hunt game for any kids that showed up. So, my daughters and I decided to play along. We managed to find all of the items by looking very carefully throughout the facility.

The first thing that we checked out was the small koi pond. Luckily, the koi were one of the items on the scavenger hunt list.

We then managed to find several other items, including a pair of stuffed monkeys.

Once we were through finding all of the scavenger hunt items, we simply went around and enjoyed looking at all of the flowers and plants and taking in the incredibly fresh and humid air. It was a great and unexpected way to spend part of the afternoon.

While not as expansive or impressive as the floral conservatories in either Edmonton or Winnipeg, this small facility in Regina is a gem in our city. If I'm not mistaken, it is staffed and maintained by a group of dedicated volunteers who do a great job setting it up and maintaining it. There are teas held here on Sundays and often weddings are conducted in one part of the conservatory. It is small but I am grateful that we have this wonderful conservatory in a city the size of Regina.
