The Expanse

Last winter I came across the following video from The Critical Drinker:

I had never heard of The Expanse even though it has been out since 2015 and is now a mainstay of Amazon Prime. It has been a while since I've seen a science fiction TV show (or movie for that matter) that is this thought provoking and enjoyable. The Drinker was correct in his assessment of this show in his review.

Once I started watching The Expanse, I began to see how well-done this show is - from the depth of the characters to the special effects to the storytelling. I have watched all five seasons, have listened to the Into The Expanse podcast, and am now reading the first book that this show is based on. To some degree, The Expanse has taken over my free time for the last several months and it has been an enjoyable ride. So enjoyable that I am watching all five seasons again. This second look at the show is proving to me how in-depth the storytelling is - I am seeing and noticing things that I did not pick up on during my first go round.

I highly recommend this show, the podcasts that follow it, and the books. All are excellent ways to spend some spare time escaping into a future world that still has lessons for us in the present.
