The Critical Drinker Weighs In on Rise of Skywalker

I came across The Critical Drinker early in 2019 via his YouTube channel. I thought that he was not only hilarious but also articulate and thoughtful in his reviews of films both new and old. His irreverence and stereotypical "Scottish drunk" approach to his reviews was very entertaining. I still laugh heartily at most of his videos. But, then I discovered that The Drinker is actually published author Will Jordan and he is indeed Scottish. No wonder that, despite the drunkenness schtick in his videos, this guy was so articulate in his analysis - he's a writer. Given how entertaining I found his videos, I thought that I should at least give his first Ryan Drake novel " Redemption " a read. This would be my way of acknowledging The Drinker's work and also sending some dosh his way. I couldn't put the book down. It is a page-turning thriller from front to back. Perhaps my most entertaining read of 2019 (and I read lots of books)...

Sebaceous Cyst / 皮脂嚢胞

Definition : Sebaceous cysts are common noncancerous cysts of the skin. Cysts are abnormalities in the body that may contain liquid or semiliquid material. Sebaceous cysts are mostly found on the face, neck, or torso. They grow slowly and aren’t life-threatening, but they may become uncomfortable if they go unchecked. I now have experienced the development and need to deal with a sebaceous cyst that became infected and quite uncomfortable. About a year ago during a routine examination, the cyst was identified. It showed up as a small lump under the skin on my belly. I was a bit concerned about this - was it something cancerous? My doctor assured me that it was benign and that I should not worry about it unless it were to get infected. Well, about two weeks ago that indeed happened. The area around the cyst started getting red and sore. At first I didn't think too much about it until it became clear that the cyst was infecte...

The Rise of Skywalker: Will This Thing be Any Good?

For the past several months, I have been paying attention to all of the discussion (and gnashing of teeth) around the creation (and presumed "dumpster fire") of the latest Star Wars movie - The Rise of Skywalker . There seems to be a very fragmented audience for the Star Wars movies now given that there are nine (plus change) films in total. Star Wars is indeed a cinematic franchise - especially now that Disney owns it and is trying to squeeze every last cent out of the investment it made in LucasFilm back in 2012. But, it seems to me, given all of the discussion that is taking place about this movie, that Star Wars has become much more than just a movie franchise. It's starting to look more like a religion or a political movement (and indeed the political machinations in the first 6 episodes - dealing with fascism and the fall of democracy - cuts close to home in the global political environment of 2019). But I digress... Will this movie be any good? I...
