Over the past month, it has been a bit of a tough go for musicians / DJ's and others who make their living by playing live gigs to a paying audience. Pretty much all of their work has dried up as all of their normal venues have closed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. I know that this left many people scrambling to re-arrange their schedules and their finances while trying to figure out what to do to continue earning some income.
My friend Dr. J is no different. He's been a practicing DJ in both Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Regina, Saskatchewan for the past 30 years. He's also the host of the Expansions radio show on CFCR Community Radio in Saskatoon. In all of that time, I don't think that he's ever encountered a situation quite like this where all of his gigs disappeared overnight. In the meantime, he has been doing what he can online to create his music and share it with the world. One of his gigs is to now put up shows on both Soundcloud and Mixcloud. Recently, he was #1 in one of the Mixcloud charts.
Now, I'll be honest, Dr. J's music isn't always to my taste - I'm not really into hip hop or house music. But, I do like vintage R&B and funk. And, I'm happy to say that Dr. J served up some 80's stuff on Soundcloud last week. I really enjoyed listening to this eclectic mix of tunes. Keep it up Dr. J!
