Since I have been learning bass over the past few months, I have subscribed to a number of bass-related video channels on YouTube. Mark J. Smith runs Talking Bass, which his a site that offers lots of free lessons, videos, etc.
In a video released yesterday, Mark shows how to play the two simultaneous bass lines from Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side". The techniques that he demonstrates are bloody brilliant! I'm going to give this a go once I get through a few more of my introductory bass lessons.
And here is Herbie Flowers, the legendary bass player that played the line in the original song, explaining how the bass line came about. Indeed, it is played on two different basses - one a double bass and the other an electric bass guitar.
