Bass Guitar Groove with Juna Serita / ジュナ・セリータとベースギター・グルーヴ

I recently started to learn to play the bass guitar.  This is primarily as a form of therapy.  It was recommended to me as a way to relax, do something fun, learn a new skill, and get out of my mind full of worries.  I was skeptical at first given that my experience with playing music in the past has not been all that successful.

I mistakenly tried organ when I was a kid and didn't really like playing that instrument.  As an adult I tried Japanese taiko drumming but found that I kept getting injured due to the intense physical aspect of this art form.  So, I took a chance, bought a cheap bass and amp and signed up for lessons with BassBuzz.com (these lessons are great for a starter who has never picked up a bass in their life).

My entry-level Kona P-Bass (with Japanese Flag strap)

I'm just at the start of this journey but so far I have found that learning to play the bass is fun.  It is definitely one of the cooler instruments that I've ever set my hands on.  I love learning to sink into a groove and follow the drummer (always listen to the high-hat!).  Playing this thing really does take one's mind off of things.  It is a great form of therapy.

There are so many great players out there - lots of famous people that have played (or are playing) in bands that I love.  But these are the obvious people to look to for inspiration.  I have recently been looking for inspiration from other, less famous people.  Today I came across a Japanese bass player named Juna Serita - and can she play!  I can only hope to be this good some day (and I likely won't given that this is just a hobby for me).

As the following videos show, she can lock into a groove and chug or do some fancy finger work on the fretboard.  Really inspirational!

And, who can resist a cover of the theme from the old Barney Miller TV show?!  I'd love to be able to play this someday.
