Mike Reilly and Mental Health

Source: cfl.ca

Okay, I will admit that I'm not much of a sports fan.  Never have been.  Other than some street football and street hockey when I was a kid, I really didn't play any sports.  Just didn't have an athletic drive.  Books, movies, and music were my thing... with one exception.  To this day, I enjoy CFL football.  It's about the only sport that I watch faithfully.

Part of this is because Regina has a CFL team - the Roughriders.  But more importantly, I come from a family that has basically been CFL crazy for my entire existence.  So, even though I'm not a "sports guy", I definitely make time to watch CFL games, participate in pools, and check out cfl.ca from time to time.

I was very pleased to read a story about BC quarterback Mike Reilly's struggles with anxiety and panic attacks in this article.  I was very surprised to read about what Reilly was dealing with last year.  I am someone who has also had to deal with anxiety and panic attacks and it was a very difficult thing to come to terms with.  It is inspiring to discover that someone like Mike Reilly has been dealing with something similar.

It is very easy to feel alone and feel the stigma of a mental health challenge.  It is wonderful that Mike Reilly can come forward and tell the world about his struggle and how he overcame it.

Thanks Mike for having the courage to tell your story.  I'm sure this will help a lot of people, including me.
