First BBQ of 2025!

The high today in Regina was 5C. Downright tropical! Spring may finally be on the horizon. Early April is usually the first month where winter is finally on its long way out for the year. There is still quite a bit of snow left, especially on northern exposures where the sun can't get at it. I'm quite relieved that this long and snowy winter we had in 2024/25 is now more or less over. Of course, that means it is time for barbecue season... my favourite way to cook. Not having access to the BBQ throughout the five or six months of winter is a bummer. So... today was the day that I decided it was warm enough at 5C to actually get outside and fire up (quite literally) my old charcoal barbecue. Luckily I still had some briquettes left over from last year. Today on the menu was Greek burgers with feta and mayo along with a spring mix salad. I haven't made this dish for quite some time. Lucky for me, the family loved this dish and it was well-received. I thoroughly enjoyed it too...

University of Regina Reminiscing

I attended the University of Regina from the fall of 1991 to the fall of 1996. I didn't know what to expect when I first set foot on campus. I think that in September 1991 I was expecting it to be simply a larger repeat of high school. This caused me a great deal of angst given that high school hadn't exactly been my cup of tea. I had all kinds of worries... Would I come into contact with people that I had difficulty with from my previous school experiences? Could I actually handle the courses? I had been a decent student but not an extraordinary one. What truly were my academic weaknesses and could I overcome them? Would I meet new people who were nice and would become lifelong friends or would I just get lost in a huge sea of people? It turned out that all of my worries were silly. I had challenges to overcome for sure but that was part of the experience. The U of R wasn't the largest or most prestigious university but it was close to home and relatively affordable to att...

RCMP Museum

While waiting for my daughter to finish her "day at Luther" session at Luther College I found myself with my other daughter in west Regina with very little to do. We had already been out for lunch and had about an hour to kill. That didn't leave a lot of time to drive around the city, find something interesting to do, and get back to Luther in time to pick up daughter number one. I suggested to daughter number two that perhaps we should go and visit the RCMP Museum at F Division. I hadn't been there in ages. Daughter number two had been there at least once before for an elementary school field trip but it had been some time for her too. So, we decided to go. The museum building is a wonderful piece of architecture that was put up around twenty years ago. I suspect that the overall funding for this project was a bit of "pork barrel" politics.
