Yesterday we made the trip back to Honshu, leaving our Okinawan
experience behind us. It is quite nice to be back on the 'mainland'
and in the great city of Osaka. We are now definitely back to the Japan
that I know.
Osaka is certainly a busier place than Naha - definitely not as laid back here! There is obviously work to be done, people to see, and food to eat. The thing that always strikes me about Osaka is the sheer scale of eating establishments of all kinds. Osaka is definitely known for food and we have not been disappointed. We immediately went for the Kansai specialty of okonomiaki (Japanese pancake). Washed down with some shochu, our okonomiaki meal was excellent.
Our travels also took us through a very exclusive part of Osaka with many upscale shops such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, etc. I was asked if I would write in this blog something that would make fun of these establishments. At the time I said that I would be doing so but I've decided not to other than to state that I'm simply not impressed by this type of upscale product. I just don't see the value. I was more impressed with the Apple store that was in the same district. I guess that I'm simply a provincial 'otaku' (geek)...
For our two days here in Osaka it seems like all that we've done is eat, walk around, and sleep. In a city like Osaka with such great food, life doesn't get much better.
