Last Night in Japan

It is hard to believe but our last night in Japan has come to be. The three weeks that we have been here have just flown by. A year's vacation spent all at once!

In order to spend some time with Hana's parents for our last night here we went out for supper to a local "pub" that served Japanese barbeque. We ate lots of skewered meats including beef liver and heart. I've never ate heart before and I'm not sure that I really like it -- it is downright rubbery! Nothing that a little barbecue sauce couldn't cure though!

In addition to the various meats we tried a number of different sakes. The number of sake varieties in Japan is amazing -- so much better than what we have at home which is basically cooking sake in Japan. It was a pretty cool evening in Toyama and there is nothing better on a cool evening than a warm glass of sake.

Before heading out tomorrow there was one last task that we needed to take care of -- practice English with Hana's cousin's daughter who is planning on attending a student exchange in Kentucky in the near future. I wasn't sure what to expect but her English was very good and I'm sure that she will do very well on her exchange. It was great to practice speaking with her -- finally made me feel useful in Japan!

Well, tomorrow is the big day -- three separate flights, three separate airports, Canada Customs and Immigration, and hooking up with Midori and the kids in Tokyo. It is going to be a long one!
